This patch builds on the last patch i posted. I’veadded drums to the patch by using the Matriarch’s 2nd LFO as a kick drum and Noise output as snare and hi hats.
Make Noise MATHS is working as a gate delay/clock divider. (it isn’t always perfect so can yield some unexpected and surprising results)
Gear Used:
Moog Matriarch
Make Noise Maths
Intellijel Quad VCA
Mutable Instruments Stages (as Voltage Controllable Envelope Generator)
A Patch based on an idea from the DFAM manual which uses the PITCH SEQUENCER to control noise volume (Snare/Clap).
Mult PITCH out to DFAM NOISE LEVEL & CV Mixer or Attenuator/Inverter.
Invert PITCH SEQ CV and send to DFAM VCA DECAY IN.
Higher values on Pitch Sequencer will then make snare louder but also shorter and “snappier”.
In the video I use a Happy Nerding 3xMIA to invert, mixand offset CV, but almost any CV mixer will work fine…Make Noise Maths, Doepfer a-138, Planar….pretty much anything will do.
Here’s a patch i came up with using a Moog DFAM’s trigger out to create 2 independent pitch sequences using Make Noise Maths. An easy way to expand on the DFAM’s capabilities and a fun way to come up with arpeggios or sequences you may never think of using a conventional sequencer or playing an instrument…also a good way to get more pitch CV if you’re out of outputs.
This technique will work with any gate/trigger signal and any slew limiter or Envelope Generator….but here’s what I used this time:
Moog DFAM
2 Moog Mother-32s
Make Noise Maths
Intellijel Scales (Quantizer)
Intellijel Buffered Mult
“Bonus” Gear:
Intellijel Quadrax
Mutable Instruments Stages (as clock divider)
Mutable Instruments Ears (as switch/trigger for clock divider)
How to turn Gates to Pitch using an Envelope Generator.
A fun way to come up with arpeggios or sequences you may never think of using a conventional sequencer or playing an instrument….also a good way to get more pitch CV if you’re out of outputs.
In this video i used Intellijel Quadrax, In Part 1 i used Make Noise Maths.
Required Gear:
Gate generator – (Trigger, Gate out of Module, Pulse LFO…almost anything will do…bipolar LFOs produce odd results, but that may be what you’re going for!)
Envelope Generator – Used an Intellijel Quadrax in this video, but any AR will do…Maths (in part 1), Stages….just about any will do, but must be able to turn off/ignore re-trigger on Rise/Attack.
VCO (i used Moog Mother-32 for tutorial…and Roland 512 for demo at end)
Quantizer (I used Intellijel Scales and Expert Sleepers Disting, but any decent quantizer will do)
CV Mixer – will need to attenuate/offset and/or invert CV – I used Happy Nerding 3xMIA. Maths will of course work as will many other CV mixers.
A LOT of multiples!
Other Gear Used:
Doepfer a-101-2 Low Pass Gates
Mutable Instruments Stages (as a probability switch)
Intellijel Bifold – just a cool way to animate the Mother-32s Saw Wave
Here’s a fun an easy patch using a DFAM and STAGES.
In this patch I’m using Stages as a Subharmonic Generator, A Sequencer and Clock Divider. The DFAM is the sound source and I’m using it’s sequencer to control the pitches of the subharmonics.
This is a quick breakdown of the patch from the previous video, looking more at how stages can work as a subharmonic generator….how DFAM’s sequencer can make it easier to control stages and how inverting and offsetting the pitch CV in a sequence can yield interesting results.
