A Few More Matriarch “Krell-ish” patches

Krell-ish Generative 01

A two voice generative patch for the Matriarch.

Voice 1 = OSC 2,3 &4 patched to VCF 1 and VCA 1. Pitch is generated by randomly modulated LFOs. Filter and VCA modulated by Looping Envelope Generator. Play with MIX between OSC 2,3 & 4 for different timbres and tone variety.

Voice 2 = OSC 1 patched to VCF & VCA 2. Pitch Generated by S&H and Filter modulated by Looping Envelope Generator.

Patch requires an external mult.

A Krell Nightmare

Another 2 voice generative patch. The pitch for for voices is generated from the sequencer, so depeding on play order of sequencer(ORD/FWD/BACK/RANDOM) and what you play on the keyboard, can be very random to somewhat diatonic.

The ENVELOPE GENERATORs are both triggered by the sequencer, but rhythm randmozation is accomplished by attenuating/offsetting gate cv.

Voice 1 is OSC 1&2 – VCF 1 to VCA 1

Voice 2 is OSC 3&4 – Mixer (add noise for more colour) to VCF 2 to VCA 2

General Settings: Round Robin Mode ON and LOCAL SEQ OFF. (hardwired/normalled gate cv from sequencer should not trigger EGs)

Patch requires an external mult and passive mixer (to control balance of OSC 1 & 2 but mult can be used in it’s place)

Moog Matriarch & Make Noise Maths 03 – “Band in A Box”

Another “Extended” Matriarch video.

This patch builds on the last patch i posted. I’ve added drums to the patch by using the Matriarch’s 2nd LFO as a kick drum and Noise output as snare and hi hats.

Make Noise MATHS is working as a gate delay/clock divider. (it isn’t always perfect so can yield some unexpected and surprising results)

Moog Matriarch & Make Noise Maths 02 – “Quadrophenia” 4 Independent Voice Patch

This is the second patch in an upcoming series of “expanded” patches for the Moog Matriarch in which we will pair it with other Eurorack modules.

The idea is to use all of Matriarch’s Oscillators independently by using utility modules to expand Matriarch’s capabilities.

Mini Moog vs. Behringer Model D

A few years ago I put together a few tutorial videos for a music college I teach at.

While making the videos, I wrote a few tunes using an absolutely beautiful vintage Minimoog. I bought a Behringer Model D a few months ago and decided to see if i could recreate those tunes with the Behringer.

This video is not meant as a strict comparison between the two synths….I did it because i wanted to see how close i could get to those tunes.

Moog Matriarch & Make Noise Maths 01 – “Forbidden Planet” Filter Percussion

This is the first patch in an upcoming series of “expanded” patches for the Moog Matriarch in which we will pair it with other Eurorack modules.

This patch features the Moog Matriarch and Make Noise Maths.

The stereo filter of the Matriarch is the sound source, producing sine waves by self-oscillating the filter.

Maths is being used (in a very simple way) as a logic module to produce a gate signal counter to the Matriarch’s ARP/SEQ gate.

Some added bonuses: Pitch tracked Amplitude Modulation and Ratchet/CLK Modulation.

Moog Matriarch – Another Generative Patch

Another generative patch for the Moog Matriarch.

Looping Envelope Generators modulate the 2 onboard VCFs and VCAs (which are in SPLIT MODE).

A 2 independent voice patch. Voice 1 is OSC 1&2 (sent to VCF 1 and VCA 1 using a splitter mixer or mult) Voice 2 is OSC 3&4 routed to VCF and VCA 2 using the MAtriarch’s internal mixer and routing.

LFO 1 Modulates the ARP rate (attenuated), LFO 2 rate and the delay times for both Delay 1 and 2 (attenuated and inverted)

LFO 2 is then patched back into the RATE In on LFO 1 to create more variation and randomization.

Pitch is generated by what you play on the keyboard…so can be fairly diatonic or as random as you want depending on what you play.

Moog DFAM – Tighten the Snare & Pitch Sequence Mayhem

A Patch based on an idea from the DFAM manual which uses the PITCH SEQUENCER to control noise volume (Snare/Clap).

Mult PITCH out to DFAM NOISE LEVEL & CV Mixer or Attenuator/Inverter.

Invert PITCH SEQ CV and send to DFAM VCA DECAY IN.

Higher values on Pitch Sequencer will then make snare louder but also shorter and “snappier”.

In the video I use a Happy Nerding 3xMIA to invert, mix and offset CV, but almost any CV mixer will work fine…Make Noise Maths, Doepfer a-138, Planar….pretty much anything will do.

Moog Matriarch “Trash Can” Percussion – Looping EG Generated Rhythms

Using Matriarch’s onboard mixer as CV mixer to combine CV from Envelope Generators to create accents/dynamics, complex rhythmic patterns and polyrhythms.

Patch also uses a bunch of FM and short Delay times (from Matriarch’s awesome delay) to create a metallic sound.
